Have you ever wondered why Garret kept following his dad’s orders back in Choosing You? Or what he was doing when he wasn’t with Jade? Or why he gave up drinking or worked so hard to get Jade’s attention when she kept telling him to go away?
These questions and more will be answered in a new Jade Series companion novel called Garret. It’s Garret’s point of view from Choosing You, book 1.
I didn’t originally intend for this to be a book. It developed from some writing I did to help me get inside Garret’s head for Finding Us, book 6. I wanted to get to know him better, and in order to do that, I needed to go back and write scenes that showed how he used to be, way back in Choosing You. I needed to see how he interacted with his friends and family, how his past had affected him, and how his feelings for Jade developed. All of these things affect who he is now, in book 6. So I wrote all these new scenes and by the time I was done, I decided to add his POV from the original scenes and turn it into a book for anyone who wants to know more about Garret.
I know some readers don’t like it when authors do the same book in a different point of view. And that’s fine. You don’t have to read this as part of the series. This is a bonus book–a book for fans who really love Garret and want to know more about him and his family.
As with any POV book, this book has scenes that repeat from Choosing You. It has to. If it didn’t, the book wouldn’t flow right and it would be missing important scenes. But this time you get to see those scenes from Garret’s perspective.
This book also has lots of NEW scenes. There are scenes with Garret alone, Garret with his friends, and Garret with his family. There are scenes that hint at the bad stuff Pearce is involved in. And there some new scenes with Garret and Jade. The book also includes the Garret POV scenes I posted on my blog, but they’ve been re-edited to fit the new book.
With all of the new stuff, Garret is over 100,000 words, longer than any of the other Jade books and way longer than Choosing You. As for a release date, I’m hoping to release the book late-September to celebrate the one year anniversary of Choosing You. But my priority is to get Finding Us done, so depending on how that goes, it could delay Garret, but I’ll keep you posted.
Again, Garret is a “companion” book, meaning it does not have to be read as part of the series. But if you loved Choosing You and the Garret POV scenes I wrote last year, or if you wondered what Garret was going through in those first two months he knew Jade, then I think you’ll enjoy the Garret book.
