These are the songs I listened to as I worked out scenes and dialogue in my head before I’d start writing. Then I’d listen to them again before editing to get into the right mindset for whatever scene I was working on.
Here’s what I was thinking while listening to these songs.
Breaking the Habit (Linkin Park) – I pictured Jade running sprints on the track, trying desperately to get rid of her anger and trying to figure out why she acts the way she does, pushing people away.
Easier to Run (Linkin Park) – Jade wanting to run from her problems and her past rather than deal with her issues.
Somewhere I Belong (Linkin Park) – Jade’s internal struggles in Choosing You; wishing she could get over the pain from her past.
Miss Independent (Kelly Clarkson) – Jade’s change over time, from insisting she didn’t want a guy in her life to falling in love.
Numb (Linkin Park) – Garret’s struggle to break free from his father as well as his feelings about letting his father down.
You Found Me (Kelly Clarkson) – How Jade feels about Garret sticking by her side and helping her get through her issues.
Hear Me (Kelly Clarkson) – Jade’s struggle of wanting Garret to help her and be there for her, but also wanting him to stay away because she’s scared of getting too close to him.
Dark Side (Kelly Clarkson) – Jade’s fear of Garret rejecting her because of her past and the issues she has because of that past.
Crazy for This Girl (Evan & Jaron) – How Garret feels when he’s getting to know Jade in Choosing You.
Don’t You Wanna Stay (Kelly Clarkson and Jason Aldean) – Jade and Garret’s sleepovers.
Just a Kiss (Lady Antebellum) – When Jade and Garret are just friends, taking things slow.
Some Hearts (Carrie Underwood) – How Jade feels as she gets more serious with Garret and starts to realize this relationship might actually last.
